Electrical energy generation and environment*
  1. Electricity generation based on fossil fuels like coal, natural gas and nuclear fuels like uranium and plutonium are not environment friendly. It leads to environmental degradation.
  2. Burning of fossil fuels like coal, and natural gas leads to emission of certain gases and soot particles. Incomplete combustion of fuels leads to formation of carbon monoxide. It adversely affects our health.
  3. Increase in percentage of carbon dioxide in the air due to burning of fuels causes global warming.
  4. Nitrogen dioxide generated due to burning of fuels like coal, diesel, petrol, etc. lead to problems like acid-rain.
  5. Disposal of nuclear waste generated in nuclear power plant is a challenge.
  6. An accident in nuclear power plant can be very fatal. This is because the accident may result in release of very harmful radiations.
  7. There are other ways of electricity production which avoids above problems.
  8. Electricity is generated from water reservoir, wind, Sunlight, biofuels etc. They are never-ending i.e. perpetual. Moreover, use of these sources do not lead to environmental problems.
  9. We can also call the energy generated by these processes as green energy.
  10. To avoid the environmental problems caused by energy generation using fossil and nuclear fuels, world is now heading towards environment friendly energy i.e. green energy.
